01 Dec A corporate event in Lyon
Looking for an unique destination in France for your next trip ? Then, Lyon is waiting for you ! Actually, even if you go to the French Riviera or to the Alps, this destination is more than worthy of a detour on your way to the sun or the slopes. Indeed, two hours from the ski resorts of the Alps and just a little further to the Mediterranean, Lyon is situated at the crossroads of France. Actually, Lyon itself has a mixed heritage, displaying traits of a typical northern French town in some areas, while other features bear witness to its Latin origins. It’s where north meets south. This two thousand year old city, situated at the junction of the Rhône and Saône rivers, rests below the impressive Fourvière and Croix Rousse hills. Visitors can take a unique journey through time and across cultures, by strolling down its narrow streets, crossing its “traboules“ (narrow secret passages), walking along its bustling docks, passing through its impressive squares, and seeing over 200 sites illuminated at night.
A UNESCO world heritage site, Lyon’s major selling point for many visitors are its distinctive architectural hallmarks and the contrasts in its setting, between its two hills and its two rivers. Its centre is beautiful, and it’s enough to have you snapping selfies all over the place. But the whole city now can be explored. Its riverfront, especially, is being transformed under an ambitious plan to develop 30 miles of former docks. The co-called Confluence project is now Europe’s largest single urban regeneration mission, and it include open-air cafes, promenades, viewing points, art installations and galleries as well as nature trails, museums, a huge shopping mall, tram lines and eccentric apartment blocks built like Lego houses in primary colours and blocky shapes. An ideal place to discover Lyon’s thriving nightlife.
But Lyon has more to offer. In fact, the city itself is now a major attraction, especially if you like fine dining. This is the home of French gastronomy, and France’s second biggest city is also a gourmet’s paradise : just behind the capital, Lyon boasts the largest number of Michelin-starred restaurants and famous chefs in the whole country. Definitely a place where to taste french life delights !
